Air Duct Cleaning in Palo Alto, CA
Call (408) 650-8119Duct cleaning in Palo Alto homes
The job starts with the registers off and counted. We look at what the system actually is before anything runs. Access ports go into the main trunk. A vacuum unit pulls the line negative from the outside. Then brushes and compressed-air whips walk each branch back toward the trunk. Registers and boots get cleaned by hand. Ports are patched and sealed before we leave.
The south end of the city changes that routine. Eichler-era flat-roof tracts in Greenmeadow and Fairmeadow run radiant heat in the slab. There are no ducts under the floor. Cooling was added later, so it is usually ductless mini-split or a retrofit air handler with ducting hidden in a soffit or a new attic chase. Mini-splits are not duct work at all. Those are blower wheel, coil and drain pan.
North and central Palo Alto is different again. Professorville and Old Palo Alto Craftsman and Spanish-style houses sit on original raised foundations with sheet metal under the floor. Seams loosen. Mature oaks drop a heavy spring pollen and fine organic debris load that the return pulls in.
Remodels matter most. Drywall and sanding dust settles in open supply runs and stays there. Tell us if a remodel is still active.
Frequently Asked Questions
My Eichler has radiant slab heat and no real ductwork — is there anything to clean?
Often yes, just not where people expect. The original radiant slab has no ducts at all, but almost every Eichler-era house in south Palo Alto that has cooling got it added later: a ductless mini-split, or a retrofit air handler with runs buried in a soffit or a new chase built into the flat roof structure. Those retrofit runs are short and tight, usually installed during a remodel, which means they often still hold construction dust from the day they went in. If your house is purely radiant with mini-splits and no ducting, we'll tell you that, and there's nothing for us to do beyond pointing you toward indoor-unit coil and blower wheel service.
We just finished a remodel and the vents are blowing dust. What's happening?
This is the most common call we get here. During a remodel, supply runs sit open in the ceiling or under the floor while drywall is hung and sanded, and that fine white dust settles inside the ducts. It doesn't sweep itself out. When the system runs the first few weeks after move-back, that dust comes out of the registers and lands on everything you just paid to finish. Cleaning works best after sanding and painting are done but before you fully settle back in. If the contractor taped the boots off properly, there's usually much less, and we'll say so.
What happens after you call us
Call and tell us how many supply vents and returns you have, and we give you a two hour arrival window, not a half day.
We walk the system, pull a grille, check the trunk and any spliced flex, then hand you a firm price. The free estimate moves on vent count and access, nothing else.
We clean, run the blower to check airflow at every register, vacuum up around each vent, and you pay the quoted number.
